Phila. Suburbs No Runaway for Either Candidate

by KYW's Brad Segall

It looks like it was a split for the Democratic presidential candidates in the Philadelphia suburbs, with Hillary Clinton winning Bucks and Montgomery counties and Barack Obama taking Delaware and Chester counties.

Sen. Clinton won Bucks County by a substantial margin and beat Sen. Obama by a slim margin in Montgomery County, where he was expected to do well with affluent and first-time voters.

Montgomery County Democratic party chairman Marcel Groen says it was the time she spent in the county that gave her the win:

“I think that voters appreciated -- it wasn’t so much negative on Senator Obama, I think it was real appreciation of somebody constantly asking for our support and our votes.”

Groen says that both candidates are strong and he would like to see a Clinton-Obama ticket in the fall. He says that anything less would make it that much harder for the Democrats to take back the White House.
